The Key to Happiness

There may be a different perspective of different people in regards to the view of this life and ways to achieve happiness. Some people may think that the best way to attain a happy life is by having a full bank balance with tons of money, for some, it might be to have all that you desire i.e. the lavish life! Hanging around with friends and chilling might be another person’s goal to rejuvenate their happiness.

The real goal of a person can never be fulfilled by just striving to achieve the notion of happiness all the time. I am not saying striving to be happy is something wrong or that you cannot achieve it; my purpose of saying this is to justify our purpose of living. For a Muslim believer, the goal of achieving the epitome of happiness is just limited and will last for a short period because he understands well that there are his choices, decisions & desires and there are Allah’s choices and decree for him.

“And it may be that you dislike a thing which is good for you and that you like a thing which is bad for you. Allah knows but you do not know.” (Al-Baqarah, 2:216)

You see, today, in the era of social media where a person’s happiness is defined by the number of likes they get on their posts. That’s anyway not going to last forever. Because those are just mere moments/memories that define your happiness – yes, you may remember them again throughout your lifetime and you will get to cherish those memories but still, you cannot bring back all again.

Again, I repeat, this is not to say that one should not enjoy moments, memories; one should definitely do things that make them happy. But anyone who strives to find something higher than being happy will have both the goodness of this life and the life to come. There’s a purpose/intention behind everything that a Muslim does in this life. Their actions are defined by their ultimate goal of pleasing their Creator.

Life is not a cakewalk for all the people. Every person goes through different struggles and different phases of their life that actually define them! Allah tests different individuals differently based on their capacity. In times of hardship, you can gain a bonus by remaining patient, dealing with, and reacting to the difficulties with your conscious mind. The trials and tribulations are equally a part of your life and God has His timings to test us.

The sooner we achieve one stairway of happiness, the more Man strives to achieve it as his expectations to fulfill his desire to get high and so he is not satisfied by what has passed and yearns for more. He awaits in having another stance of life where he can be happy again. However, this process goes on and on.

The goal should be to have a peaceful life. A life filled with contentment and tranquility. This contentment one can achieve by remembering the One who has created life and to whom everyone will depart one day. It is easy for anyone to say this but once a person strives to shun his desires and starts pleasing their Lord ALLAH then surely they will achieve all the pursuit of happiness for their soul.

We only see things with a smaller picture and try to achieve them as they please us, we forget the One who has the entire vision held with Him and who can change it anytime! We have to get used to accept that and be satisfied with it! Let’s practice remaining in solitude and ponder over our life, this creation, and most importantly the Creator!
